A great town or city prides itself on its commitment to history. To that end, the Rochester-Avon Historical Society announces its 2018 downtown Rochester historical walking tour schedule. There will be five tours from June through October, plus some special tours for family reunions and other events. These tours are attended by over 300 people per year. From children and seniors to newcomers and longtime residents, these tours provide something for everyone. The tours are led by a guide and two assistants who will have binders filled with historical pictures of downtown Rochester. Attendees will enjoy stories about early settlers, buildings, and events that have happened in downtown Rochester over the years. All tours will once again begin at the Western Knitting Mills (aka Rochester Mills) on Water Street, on the northeast outside corner of the building. Tours last approximately two to two and half hours. Reservations are not required. Fees are $5.00 per person; $3.00 for seniors and students. Children under twelve are free. RAHS members are free. Tour dates are as follows: June 11 at 7 p.m. July 10 at 7 p.m. August 10 at 7 p.m. September 15 at 1 p.m. October 14 at 1 p.m. Invite your friends and neighbors and look for the man in the top hat! Rain or shine.
