Operation Overlord: The Weather and Weather Forecast Behind History's Greatest Invasion, presented by Paul Gross

The Allied invasion of the Nazi-held French coast at Normandy is widely regarded as one of the most important military operations in history. But the story of how a small band of meteorologists played a decisive role in the invasion’s planning went largely untold for decades. Explore this history through a brief 20 minute documentary, followed by a discussion with Producer Paul Gross.

WDIV meteorologist emeritus Paul Gross retired earlier this year.  Paul enterprised many scientific and historical stories over his forty-year career, but his three-and-a-half years of research into the weather and weather forecast behind D-Day was his greatest effort.  The documentary he researched, wrote and produced was deemed so historically significant that it was added to the official D-Day archives at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library, the British Meteorological Archives, and the Museums of Television and Radio History in New York and Chicago.
