Unintended Consequences: Sunken Settlements of Lake St. Clair
~Daniel F. Harrison, PhD, Wayne State University Department of Anthropology
In the early 19th century, two communities arose on the Michigan shore of Lake St. Clair: the Catholic church of St. Felicity, and the Village of Belvidere. Within a few decades, both had succumbed to rising waters. Were the causes natural, or man-made? What can the past tell us about the future? The investigation combines history, archaeology, and climatology, with an environmental message.
